70th Kannada Rajyotsava Celebration

The vibrant celebration of the 70th Kannada Rajyotsava and the 53rd Karnataka Sambhrama was organized by New Horizon College of Engineering, Marathahalli. The event was a grand tribute to the rich cultural heritage, language, and traditions of Karnataka. Staff members and students came together to celebrate the spirit of Kannada with enthusiasm and pride. The special guest for the event was Ms. Ankita Kundu, a renowned playback singer, who graced the occasion with her presence.

Program Highlights

The event commenced with a respectful flower offering to Kannada Maate, symbolizing devotion and reverence towards the mother of the Kannada language. This marked the beginning of the celebration with a sense of cultural pride and unity. Following the floral tribute, the Naada Geethe, Karnataka’s state anthem “Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujate”, was sung by the college choir. The melodious rendition filled the atmosphere with patriotic fervor and set the tone for the celebration.

A mesmerizing inaugural dance performance by Ms. Shivani showcased the cultural richness of Karnataka through traditional moves and expressions. The colorful attire and graceful choreography captivated the audience. The Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. Sonia Maria D’Souza, warmly greeting the dignitaries, guest, staff, and students. The speaker emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting the Kannada language and culture.

The Principal of New Horizon College of Engineering, Dr. Manjunatha addressed the gathering, highlighting the college’s commitment to fostering regional culture alongside academic excellence. The principal encouraged students to take pride in their linguistic and cultural identity. Students of Department of AIML presented another energetic folk-dance performance, reflecting the folk traditions and festive spirit of Karnataka. The performance included elements from various folk styles like Kolata, Kamsale and Veeragase, earning loud applause from the audience.

The highlight of the event was a musical concert by Ms. Ankita Kundu, the invited guest and playback singer. Her soulful renditions of popular Kannada songs enthralled the crowd. The students and faculty joined in singing along, creating a joyous and engaging atmosphere.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by a Dr. Sanjeev Kulgud, who expressed gratitude to the guest, management, organizers, and all participants for making the event a memorable success. The event concluded with the National Anthem, marking a respectful and patriotic end to the day’s celebration.

The celebration concluded on a sweet note with the distribution of the traditional Karnataka delicacy — Mysore Pak. Students and staff enjoyed the treat, marking the end of the event with joy and togetherness. This gesture reflected the warmth and hospitality that are integral to Kannada culture.
