Industrial visit to the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Rural Energy and Development (MGIRED)

The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning organised an industrial visit to the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Rural Energy and Development (MGIRED), Bengaluru, on 5 May 2026. A total of 60 fourth-semester students participated in the visit, which was conducted from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The primary objective of the visit was to provide students with experiential learning opportunities in the fields of rural energy systems and sustainable development. During the programme, students were introduced to a range of renewable energy technologies and rural development initiatives implemented by the institute. Experts from MGIRED explained the functioning and significance of solar energy systems, biogas plants, and various energy conservation techniques.

The sessions highlighted the importance of sustainable rural electrification models in addressing contemporary energy challenges and promoting inclusive development. Students gained valuable insights into the practical applications of technology in rural communities and understood the role of innovation in improving energy accessibility and efficiency.

Interactive discussions with industry experts enabled students to clarify their queries and gain a deeper understanding of real-world implementation practices. The visit enhanced their awareness of sustainability and its contribution to nation-building while encouraging interdisciplinary learning beyond the conventional scope of AI and ML.

Furthermore, the exposure motivated students to explore the potential of AI-driven solutions for energy optimisation, resource management, and rural development challenges. Overall, the industrial visit proved to be an enriching academic experience, broadening students’ technical knowledge while strengthening their professional and social perspectives.
