Guest talk -Under the Hood of AI Agents: How AI Agents Think and Get Things Done

The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI&ML) organized a guest talk titled “Under the Hood of AI Agents: How AI Agents Think and Get Things Done?” on 28th September 2026 for third-semester AI&ML students. The session was conducted from 10:40 AM to 11:40 AM in Room C 503. Ms. Priyanka K, an industry expert, served as the resource person for the session. The programme was coordinated by Ms. K S Shashikala and Ms. S S Sivasankari, Senior Assistant Professors, under the guidance of Dr. Vandana CP, HoD–AI&ML. The talk introduced students to the evolution of artificial intelligence from rule-based systems and traditional chatbots to autonomous AI agents. The speaker explained the role of Large Language Models (LLMs) in enabling AI agents to understand instructions, reason, plan, and make decisions. Students gained insights into agent memory, tool integration, action execution, and feedback-driven adaptation. The session demonstrated how AI agents can use external tools to accomplish goals and adjust their actions based on outcomes.

Real-world applications of agentic AI across industry and society were discussed to highlight its growing significance. The speaker also addressed security risks associated with autonomous systems, emphasizing the importance of controlled permissions and appropriate safeguards. Discussions on AI-related security incidents reinforced the need for reliable, transparent, and responsible agent design. Overall, the session enriched students’ understanding of emerging agentic AI technologies and helped bridge the gap between academic learning and current industry developments.
